AWS GPU Prices Are Up in 2026 — What Teams Are Paying Now

On-demand rates across AWS's H100, H200, B200, and B300 instances — and how the gap to independent GPU clouds has widened in 2026.

What AWS GPU Compute Costs Today

AWS's on-demand GPU instances in us-east-1 span four tiers in 2026, from the workhorse H100 up to the new B300 Blackwell Ultra node. All rates below are per 8-GPU node, on-demand.

The Gap to Independent Clouds

The same H100 SXM capacity is available from multiple independent providers at materially lower list prices. The table below compares on-demand per-GPU-hour rates for H100 SXM 80GB across all tracked providers.

AWS's 1-year reserved rate ($38.50/hr node, $4.81/GPU-hr) and 3-year rate ($25.60/hr node, $3.20/GPU-hr) narrow the gap significantly. The 3-year reserved rate is roughly in line with independent cloud list prices — but requires a 3-year financial commitment.

When AWS Still Makes Sense

The premium has real justification. AWS provides full-stack integration: VPC networking, IAM, S3 proximity, SageMaker pipelines, and enterprise SLAs that specialized GPU clouds do not replicate. Teams with existing AWS workloads avoid egress costs that would otherwise offset the per-GPU savings.

Compliance coverage is also a factor. AWS maintains SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA BAA, ISO 27001, FedRAMP Moderate, and PCI DSS. For regulated workloads — healthcare AI, government, financial services — the audit overhead of adding a second cloud vendor often exceeds the cost difference on a per-run basis.

When the Premium Doesn't Pay Off

Pure training jobs with no cloud-lock dependency face a 2–3× cost multiplier at AWS on-demand rates versus the next-tier alternatives. Spot pricing on AWS ($19.80/hr, $2.48/GPU-hr) is competitive with independent cloud list prices, but p5 spot capacity is frequently interrupted under current demand pressure.

For inference workloads not tied to an existing VPC, providers like Lambda, CoreWeave, and Hyperstack offer comparable H100 capacity at significantly lower per-token cost, with Kubernetes-native scheduling and per-GPU billing that suits variable inference traffic.

How to Evaluate Your Options

Use the AWS 3-year reserved rate as your ceiling when evaluating alternatives — it's the best committed price AWS offers and represents the minimum you'd pay for genuine AWS integration. If an independent cloud's on-demand rate is at or below that ceiling, the comparison is straightforward.

For latency-sensitive inference co-located with a VPC, the on-demand premium may be justified. For batch training that can tolerate data transfer, it rarely is. GPUAdvisor's TCO calculator and compliance matrix can help quantify both sides of that trade-off.
