AWS Raised H200 Prices 15% in January 2026
On a Saturday, with no announcement email, AWS raised on-demand H200 pricing across its p5e and p5en instances by about 15%. Here's what actually changed.
What Changed
On January 4, 2026, AWS raised pricing on its H200 based EC2 Capacity Blocks. The change hit p5e.48xlarge and p5en.48xlarge, both eight GPU H200 instances. AWS gave "supply and demand patterns" as the reason. No customer email went out. Most people found out from their own bill or from other people flagging it online.

The Register called this a break from roughly two decades of AWS training customers to expect cloud prices to only move one way: down. That's their framing, not a number we can independently verify. What we can verify is the rate change itself, and it's real.
Why This Matters for Your Quote
If someone quoted you H200 pricing before January 2026, that number is already stale. A 15% jump on a single provider is exactly the kind of move that turns a fair quote into an overpriced one without anyone doing anything wrong.
